Fixing Remmina RDP Server Error

Remmina Remote Desktop

I’ve been using Linux Mint 17.1 x64 for a few months now, without too many hitches. I use Remmina Remote Desktop app with Remmina RDP plugin for connecting to my work’s Windows 2012 server. Everything has been running smooth until I updated to Linux Mint 17.2. Afterwards, I would just get an error that looked like this “Unable to connect to RDP server …” . The weird thing was that it let me connect to the same server on a different port number with no issues. So after much trial and error. I figured out that it had to do with the “known_hosts” file and the fingerprints not matching. So here’s how I fixed mine:

  1. Open the home directory
  2. Show hidden files
  3. Open .freerdp
  4. Delete the file “known_hosts”
  5. Retry connecting to problematic connection and accept new fingerprint
